Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until thoroughly combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on medium speed until combined. Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove the cakes from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Ganache Directions

  1. 7

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan over medium heat, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Do not let it boil.

  2. 8

    Make the Ganache

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

  3. 9

    Cool the Ganache

Allow the ganache to cool slightly at room temperature until it thickens slightly.

  4. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top, then place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining ganache.
