Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined, then form into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter.
- 2
Cook the Meatballs
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove meatballs and set aside.
- 3
Make the Sauce
In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, and salt to taste. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes.
- 4
Combine Meatballs and Sauce
Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and let simmer in the sauce for another 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
- 5
Cook the Spaghetti
While the meatballs are simmering, cook spaghetti according to package instructions in a large pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- 6
Serve
Serve the spaghetti topped with the meatballs and sauce. Garnish with additional parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.
