Method

Hodad’s (San Diego)

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bacon Patty

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until it's crispy. Remove from heat and drain on paper towels. Once cooled, chop the bacon into small pieces.

  2. 2

    Form the Bacon Patty

Take the chopped bacon and press it into a patty shape that is slightly larger than the beef patty. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Beef Patty

In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form it into a patty about 1 inch thick.

  4. 4

    Cook the Beef Patty

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patty for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip and place the bacon patty on top of the beef patty.

  5. 5

    Melt the Cheese

Add a slice of American cheese on top of the bacon patty and cover the grill or skillet with a lid for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.

  6. 6

    Toast the Burger Buns

While the cheese is melting, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a separate skillet until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a leaf of lettuce, a slice of tomato, the cooked beef and bacon patty with melted cheese, pickles, and onion slice. Top with the other half of the bun.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately with your choice of sides.
