Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Start by washing the fresh basil and oregano leaves. Pat them dry with a kitchen towel. Peel and mince the garlic cloves. Dice the tomatoes into small cubes.

  2. 2

    Grate the Cheese

Using a box grater or food processor, grate the mozzarella and Romano cheese into separate bowls.

Assembly

  1. 3

    Spread the Tomato Sauce

In a large baking dish or pizza stone, spread the tomato sauce evenly across the base, leaving a small border around the edges.

  2. 4

    Add Cheese

Sprinkle the grated mozzarella cheese evenly over the tomato sauce, followed by the Romano cheese.

  3. 5

    Layer with Tomatoes and Herbs

Distribute the diced tomatoes evenly over the cheese. Then, sprinkle the minced garlic, fresh basil, and oregano on top.

Cooking

  1. 6

    Bake the Margherita

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Place the prepared dish in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges are golden.

  2. 7

    Serve

Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
