Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F or 43°C) with sugar and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast is frothy, add it along with olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling the Pizza
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 7
Roll Out Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.
- 8
Add Sauce
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza peel or a baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the base, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 9
Add Cheese and Seasoning
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the sauce. Add a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese and dried oregano. Season with black pepper.
- 10
Bake the Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
- 11
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven. Allow to cool for a minute, then garnish with fresh basil leaves. Slice and serve hot.
