Cake Preparation

Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Cream Butter and Sugars
In another bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Wet and Dry
Mix in the buttermilk until well combined, followed by the dry ingredients. Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Chocolate Sauce Preparation

Heat Cream
In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just simmering.

Melt Chocolate
Remove from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate and corn syrup. Stir until fully melted and smooth.
Assembly

Layer the Cake
Once the cake is completely cooled, place one layer on a serving platter. Spread a layer of chocolate sauce on top, then add the second layer.

Top the cake with scoops of vanilla ice cream and drizzle with more chocolate sauce before serving.
