Tofu Preparation

Method

Tofu Preparation

1

Press the Tofu

Wrap the block of firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top (like a cast-iron skillet) to press out excess moisture. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes.

2

Cut the Tofu

Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes (about 1 inch each).

3

Season the Tofu

In a bowl, mix cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Toss the tofu cubes in the mixture until evenly coated.

4

Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

5

Fry the Tofu

Add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil in a single layer. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy. Remove the tofu from the pan and drain on paper towels.

Preparing the Sauce

6

Mix the Sauce Ingredients

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, honey (or maple syrup), minced garlic, and grated ginger until well combined.

7

Serve

Drizzle the sauce over the fried tofu or serve it on the side. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
