Calamari Preparation

Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

Make the Breading
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

Bread the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring first into the wet mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture until fully coated.

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings in batches to the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Marinara Sauce Preparation

Sauté Garlic
In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Make the Sauce
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, sugar, and fresh basil to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
