Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Ganache Preparation

  1. 8

    Heat the Cream

In a saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer.

  2. 9

    Melt the Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semisweet chocolate chips, stirring until completely melted and smooth.

  3. 10

    Cool the Ganache

Let the ganache sit at room temperature until it thickens slightly but is still pourable.

  4. 11

    Assemble the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate, pour half of the ganache over it, and then top with the second cake layer. Pour the remaining ganache over the top.

  5. 12

    Serve

Allow the ganache to set for a few minutes before slicing and serving the cake.
