Method
Preparing the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Set Up the Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk in the second bowl, and combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.
- 2
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Dip each mozzarella stick into the flour, coating it completely. Shake off any excess flour. Then, dip it into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and finally coat it with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing firmly to adhere the breadcrumbs. Repeat with all mozzarella sticks.
- 3
Freeze the Sticks
Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze them for at least 30 minutes. This helps them hold their shape during frying.
Frying the Mozzarella Sticks
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Cheese Sticks
Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the mozzarella sticks hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
Preparing the Marinara Sauce
- 7
- 8
Combine Ingredients
Add the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
- 9
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
