Caramel Sauce
Flan Mixture
Method
Caramel Sauce
- 1
Make the Caramel Sauce
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar and water. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves.
- 2
Increase the heat to medium-high and allow the mixture to boil without stirring. Watch closely as the mixture turns to a golden brown color, about 8-10 minutes.
- 3
Once the desired caramel color is reached, quickly remove it from the heat and pour the caramel into a round baking dish, swirling the dish to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool.
Flan Mixture
- 4
- 5
Pour the flan mixture over the cooled caramel in the prepared baking dish.
Baking
- 6
Bake the Flan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the baking dish with the flan mixture inside a larger baking pan and fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish.
- 7
Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
Serving
- 8
Serve the Flan
Once cooled, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Invert a serving plate over the baking dish and flip it to release the flan onto the plate. The caramel sauce will flow over the top.
- 9
Slice and serve chilled. Enjoy!
