Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 cups of granulated sugar, 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder, 1.5 teaspoons of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add 2 large eggs, 1 cup of whole milk, 1 cup of vegetable oil, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in 1 cup of boiling water (the batter will be thin).

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove the cakes from the pans and let them cool completely on wire racks.

Frosting Directions

  1. 7

    Prepare the Butter

In a medium bowl, beat 1 cup of unsalted butter until creamy and smooth.

  2. 8

    Mix Cocoa and Sugar

Add 0.5 cup of cocoa powder and 3 cups of powdered sugar to the butter. Mix on low speed until combined.

  3. 9

    Add Milk and Vanilla

Add 1 tablespoon of whole milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until the frosting is fluffy and spreadable. Add more milk if needed for the desired consistency.

  4. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
