Brewing Process
- 1
Step 1: Prepare the Barley
Start by mashing the barley malt in a pot with 6 cups of water. Heat the mixture to about 150°F (65°C) and maintain this temperature for 30 minutes to extract the sugars.
- 2
Step 2: Strain the Mixture
After the 30 minutes, strain the mixture to separate the liquid (wort) from the solid grain. You can use a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth for this process.
- 3
Step 3: Boil the Wort
Bring the wort to a boil and add 1 tablespoon of hops. Boil for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help to extract the flavors from the hops.
- 4
Step 4: Cool the Wort
After boiling, cool the wort quickly to around room temperature. You can do this by placing the pot in an ice bath or using a wort chiller if you have one.
- 5
Step 5: Fermentation
Once the wort has cooled, transfer it to a fermentation vessel and add 1 teaspoon of yeast. Seal the vessel with an airlock and let it ferment at room temperature for about 5-7 days.
- 6
Step 6: Carbonation
After fermentation, you can add carbon dioxide to the beer to achieve your desired fizziness. This can be done using a CO2 tank or naturally by adding a small amount of sugar before bottling.
- 7
Step 7: Bottling
Once carbonated, bottle the non-alcoholic beer in sterilized bottles. Seal them tightly and let them condition for another week in a cool, dark place.
- 8
Step 8: Enjoy
After conditioning, your Clausthaler Non-Alcoholic beer is ready to enjoy! Chill and serve.
