Churro Dough

Method

Churro Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Heat the Mixture

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add Flour

Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour until the mixture forms a ball. Return to low heat for another 1-2 minutes to dry out the dough slightly.

  3. 3

    Cool and Add Eggs

Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Then, add 2 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until the dough is smooth and glossy.

Frying and Coating

  1. 4

    Prepare the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Pipe the Dough

Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Once the oil is hot, carefully pipe 6-inch strips of dough into the oil, cutting them with scissors.

  3. 6

    Fry the Churros

Fry the churros in batches, about 3-4 at a time, until they are golden brown, approximately 2-3 minutes per side. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.

  4. 7

    Coat with Sugar

In a shallow bowl, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar with 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon. Roll the fried churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture while they are still warm to coat evenly.

Chocolate Sauce Preparation

  1. 8

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup of heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.

  2. 9

    Melt the Chocolate

Remove from heat and add 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

  3. 10

    Serve

Serve the churros warm with the chocolate sauce drizzled or on the side for dipping.
