Pork Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Begin by trimming any excess fat from the pork shoulder. Rub the Hawaiian sea salt evenly over the entire surface of the pork.

  2. 2

    Add Liquid Smoke

Drizzle the liquid smoke over the pork, ensuring it is evenly coated. If using, lay the banana leaves in the bottom of the slow cooker.

  3. 3

    Slow Cook the Pork

Place the seasoned pork shoulder in the slow cooker, cover, and cook on low for 10-12 hours or until the meat is tender and easily shredded with a fork.

Serving

  1. 4

Prepare the Rice and Mac Salad

While the pork is cooking, prepare the cooked white rice and macaroni salad according to your preferred recipes or package instructions.

  2. 5

    Shred the Pork

Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Shred the meat with two forks.

  3. 6

    Serve

Serve the shredded kalua pork over a bed of cooked white rice, accompanied by a side of macaroni salad.
