Nashville Hot Chicken

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Add chicken thighs, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In a separate bowl, mix flour, cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. This will be your coating.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Dredge the Chicken

Remove chicken from buttermilk mixture and allow excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, coating thoroughly.

  5. 5

    Fry the Chicken

Carefully place the coated chicken in the hot oil. Fry for about 7-10 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Hot Sauce Mixture

In a small bowl, combine remaining hot sauce with a bit of the frying oil (about 1/4 cup) to create a spicy sauce. Adjust to taste.

  7. 7

    Serve

Place a waffle on a plate, top with fried chicken, drizzle with the hot sauce mixture, and garnish with pickles. Enjoy!
