Fish & Chips

Method

Preparing the Tartar Sauce

  1. 1

    Make the Tartar Sauce

In a bowl, mix mayonnaise, chopped dill pickles, capers, lemon juice, and season with salt and black pepper. Set aside.

Preparing the Coleslaw

  1. 2

    Make the Coleslaw

In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage and shredded carrot. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss until well combined. Refrigerate until serving.

Cooking the Fish & Chips

  1. 3

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick fries. Rinse and soak in cold water for at least 30 minutes. Drain and pat dry.

  2. 4

    Make the Batter

In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and beer (or sparkling water) until smooth.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the soaked potatoes in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. 6

    Fry the Fish

Dip each cod fillet into the batter, letting excess drip off. Carefully place in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 7

    Serve

Serve the crispy fish and chips hot with homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw on the side.
