Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Meatball Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped parsley, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into five equal-sized meatballs, approximately the size of a golf ball.

Tomato Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Sauté Onion and Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Then add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 5

    Combine Meatballs with Sauce

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). In a baking dish, spread a layer of the tomato sauce, then place the meatballs on top. Pour the remaining sauce over the meatballs.

  2. 6

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the meatballs and sauce.

  3. 7

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  4. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, and serve hot.
