Method
Preparation
- 1
Caramelize the Onions
In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Set aside.
- 2
Prepare the Egg Mixture
In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
Slice the Baguette
Cut the baguette into 4 equal pieces and then slice each piece in half lengthwise to create a sandwich.
Assembly and Cooking
- 4
Assemble the Sandwich
Spread the caramelized onions on the bottom half of each baguette piece. Layer 1 slice of prosciutto and 1 slice of provolone cheese on top.
- 5
Coat with Egg Mixture
Dip the assembled sandwiches in the egg mixture, covering both sides.
- 6
Fry the Sandwiches
In the same skillet, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
