Turmeric Rice
Method
Gyro Meat Preparation
- 1
Prepare the gyro meat
In a bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Add the gyro meat and coat it evenly with the spice mixture. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- 2
Cook the gyro meat
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated gyro meat and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until browned and cooked through, turning occasionally. Remove from heat and let rest before slicing.
Sautéed Vegetables Preparation
- 3
Sauté the vegetables
In the same skillet used for gyro meat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the zucchini, yellow squash, purple onion, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper. Season with salt and black pepper. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
Turmeric Rice Preparation
- 4
Cook the rice
In a saucepan, combine the basmati rice, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes or until rice is cooked and the water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork before serving.
Plating
- 5
Assemble Layla's Plate
On a plate, serve a generous portion of turmeric rice as the base. Top with sliced gyro meat and a mix of sautéed vegetables. Serve hot and enjoy!
