Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with olive oil. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let it Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Assembly
- 6
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 7
Divide the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal pieces.
- 8
Roll Out the Dough
On a floured surface, roll out each piece of dough into a circle about 12 inches in diameter.
- 9
Add Filling
On one half of each dough circle, sprinkle mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- 10
Seal the Calzone
Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges to seal well, and use a fork to crimp the edges.
- 11
- 12
Bake
Place the calzones on a baking sheet or directly on the pizza stone. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 13
Cool and Serve
Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve hot.
