Preparation of Filling

Chop the Nuts
In a food processor, combine the walnuts and pistachios. Pulse until finely chopped, but not powdered. Transfer to a mixing bowl.

Add the Filling
Spread a portion of the nut mixture over the layered filo. Add 4 more layers of buttered filo on top, followed by more filling. Repeat until all filling is used, finishing with a top layer of about 8 buttered filo sheets.

Cut the Baklava
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Make sure to cut through all layers.

Bake the Baklava
Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.

Soak the Baklava
Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup evenly over it. Let it soak for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
