Fountain Drink Base (choose one)

Carbonated Water / Soda

Method

Fountain Drink Preparation

  1. 1

    Select flavor

Decide which fountain flavor you want to serve (cola, lemon-lime, root beer, fruit punch, orange, etc.). Use the matching syrup or pre-mixed base from the 'Fountain Drink Base' section. The recipe below assumes one 12-oz serving; adjust quantities proportionally for multiple servings.

  2. 2

    Prepare glass

If using ice, fill a 16-20 oz glass with 1-2 cups of ice cubes (about 1/2 to 3/4 full). Add a lemon or lime wedge to the rim or squeeze a wedge into the glass if desired.

  3. 3

    Add syrup

Measure 1/2 cup of the chosen syrup or pre-mixed base and pour it into the glass over the ice. If you prefer a lighter sweetness, reduce syrup to 1/3 cup; for a stronger flavor, increase to 2/3 cup. For commercial soda fountains, dispense syrup per machine instructions (this recipe uses syrup-to-water ratio ~1:24 for the 12-oz serving).

  4. 4

    Add carbonated water

Gently pour 12 cups of chilled carbonated water into a large pitcher if preparing multiple servings, or for a single 12-oz serving pour approximately 10-12 fl oz (about 1.25-1.5 cups) into the glass over the syrup. Pour slowly down the side of the glass or over a spoon to reduce foaming.

  5. 5

    Mix gently

Stir the drink once gently with a long spoon or straw to combine syrup and carbonated water. Avoid vigorous stirring to preserve carbonation.

  6. 6

    Finish and serve

Taste and adjust: add a tablespoon of flavored syrup (vanilla or cherry) for a twist, or a squeeze of citrus for brightness. Garnish with a lemon or lime wedge if desired and serve immediately.
