Cooking Pasta

Boil Water
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat.

Cook Pasta
Add the penne pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 10-12 minutes, until al dente.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander, reserving a little pasta water, and set aside.
Making the Sauce

Sauté Garlic and Chili
Add the minced garlic and red chili flakes to the pan. Sauté for about 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.

Simmer Sauce
Stir in salt and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.

Add Basil
Add the chopped fresh basil to the sauce, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.
Combining Pasta and Sauce

Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained penne pasta to the sauce, tossing gently to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add a little reserved pasta water until you reach the desired consistency.

Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
