Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bell Peppers

Wash the bell peppers thoroughly under cold running water. Cut the tops off and remove the seeds and membranes. You can choose to slice them into rings or chop them into bite-sized pieces, depending on your preference.

  2. 2

    Chop Aromatics

Peel and finely chop the onion and garlic. Set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté for about 3-4 minutes, until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.

  2. 4

    Cook the Bell Peppers

Add the prepared bell peppers to the skillet. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine and cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the bell peppers are tender yet still crisp.

  3. 5

    Add Fresh Basil

Once the bell peppers are cooked, remove the skillet from heat and stir in the fresh basil. If desired, add cheese and mix until melted and combined.

Serving

  1. 6

    Plate and Serve

Transfer the sautéed bell peppers to a serving dish. Serve warm as a side dish or as a filling for wraps or sandwiches.
