- 4
Add the Ground Beef
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 6-8 minutes.
- 5
Season the Beef
Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
Cooking Rice
- 6
Rinse the Rice
In a fine mesh strainer, rinse the long grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- 7
Cook the Rice
In a saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
Preparing Beans

Heat the Beans
In a small saucepan, combine the canned black beans (drained and rinsed) with cumin and salt.

Simmer
Heat over medium heat until warmed through, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serve
On a plate, serve a portion of the seasoned ground beef alongside a scoop of rice and a serving of the warmed black beans.
