Method

Preparing the Pork

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

2

Season the Pork

In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and thyme. Rub this mixture all over the pork shoulder.

3

Place in Roasting Pan

Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a roasting pan, fat side up. Pour apple cider vinegar around the pork in the pan.

4

Roast the Pork

Cover the roasting pan with aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven for about 4 to 5 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

5

Rest the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Preparing the Traditional Sides

6

Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and chop the potatoes into equal-sized chunks. Place them in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.

7

Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter and mash until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

8

Prepare the Green Beans

Trim the ends of the green beans and steam them for 5-7 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
