Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Coat the Steak

Add the flank steak to the marinade, ensuring it is well coated. Cover and let marinate for at least 30 minutes at room temperature or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.

  3. 3

    Grill the Steak

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and grill for about 5-7 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is achieved.

  4. 4

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing.

Assembling the Tacos

  1. 5

    Prepare the Onion

While the steak is resting, finely chop the onion and set aside.

  2. 6

    Chop the Cilantro

Rinse the cilantro, shake off excess water, and chop the leaves roughly.

  3. 7

    Slice the Steak

After resting, slice the steak against the grain into thin strips.

  4. 8

    Warm the Tortillas

In a dry skillet over medium heat, warm the corn tortillas for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable.

  5. 9

    Assemble the Tacos

On each tortilla, place a portion of sliced steak, some chopped onions, and cilantro. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the top.

  6. 10

    Optional Avocado

If using, slice the avocado and add a few slices to each taco before serving.
