Method

Preparation

1

Rinse the Rice

In a fine mesh strainer, rinse the long-grain white rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. This will help remove excess starch and prevent the rice from becoming sticky.

2

Chop the Vegetables

Finely chop the onion, mince the garlic, and dice the bell pepper and carrot. Set aside.

Cooking

3

Sauté the Vegetables

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

4

Add Remaining Vegetables

Stir in the diced bell pepper, diced carrot, and frozen peas. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender.

5

Cook the Rice

Add the rinsed rice to the pot, stirring to combine with the vegetables. Pour in the water and add salt, black pepper, turmeric powder, and cumin seeds. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and has absorbed all the water.

Serving

6

Fluff and Serve

Once cooked, remove the pot from heat and let it sit covered for another 5 minutes. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving. Transfer the rice to a large serving tray and serve warm.
