Naan Dough
Method
Naan Preparation
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast, yogurt, and olive oil.
Knead Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
Prepare Garlic Butter
In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic and chopped cilantro (optional). Set aside.
Divide and Roll
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten into a disc about 1/4 inch thick.
Cook Naan
Heat a skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 2-3 minutes on each side until puffed and browned.
Add Cheese and Garlic
While the naan is still hot, brush with the garlic butter and sprinkle with shredded cheese. Allow the cheese to melt slightly before serving.
