1. Measure Coffee

Use a digital scale to weigh out 18 grams of freshly ground coffee beans. The grind should be fine, similar to table salt.

2. Prepare Espresso Machine

Ensure your espresso machine is clean and preheated. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, filtered water.

3. Tamp Coffee

Place the ground coffee into the portafilter basket and distribute it evenly. Use a tamper to press down firmly and evenly on the coffee to create a flat surface.

4. Lock Portafilter

Insert the portafilter into the espresso machine's group head and twist it to lock it in place.

5. Brew Espresso

Start the brewing process on your machine. The espresso should begin to flow into the cup within 5-10 seconds. Aim for a total brew time of around 25-30 seconds for a double shot.

6. Check Extraction

Observe the color and consistency of the espresso as it brews. It should be a rich, dark brown with a layer of crema on top.
