Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Bread
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the Italian bread into 1-inch thick slices and lay them on a baking sheet. Brush both sides of each slice with extra virgin olive oil.
- 2
Toast the Bread
Place the baking sheet in the oven and toast the bread for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- 3
Prepare the Topping
While the bread is toasting, dice the fresh tomatoes and place them in a mixing bowl. Mince the garlic cloves and add them to the bowl with the tomatoes.
- 4
Add Basil and Olives
Chop the fresh basil leaves and add them to the tomato mixture. Pit and chop the kalamata olives, then add them to the bowl as well.
- 5
Season the Mixture
Drizzle the remaining extra virgin olive oil over the mixture, and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Mix everything gently until well combined.
- 6
Assemble the Bruschetta
Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each slice of toasted bread. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
