Method
Preparation
- 1
Weigh and grind
Measure 1 cup of Veracruz whole beans (approximately 82–90 g depending on bean density). Grind to a consistency appropriate for your home or office coffee maker (medium grind for drip, medium-fine for pour-over, coarse for French press). The beans are specially roasted to Full City; grinding just before brewing preserves the intense aroma and full body.
- 2
Preheat equipment
Pour 2 fl oz of filtered hot water through the empty coffee maker or over your empty pour-over cone and carafe to preheat. Discard the preheat water. Preheating keeps extraction consistent and preserves balanced acidity.
Brewing (automatic drip / office brewer)
- 3
Load coffee
Place the medium-ground Veracruz coffee into a paper or permanent filter in the brew basket. Use the full measured amount (1 cup whole beans ground yields about 10–12 tablespoons of ground coffee; adjust to 10–12 level tablespoons for 16 fl oz brew). For a strong regular (Full City) profile, use a 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio (~16 fl oz water to ~1.0–1.05 oz / 28–30 g coffee).
- 4
Start brew
Add 16 fl oz filtered water to the machine and start the brew cycle. For optimal flavor from this high-altitude, intense-aroma bean, ensure water temperature is between 195–205°F (90–96°C). The brew should take about 4–6 minutes in a drip machine; this extracts the round full body and balanced acidity without over-extracting bitterness.

- 6
Aroma experience
Place a small sample (0.1 cups) of whole beans in a small dish near the brewed carafe to let guests inhale the intense, highly pleasing aroma before tasting.
Brewing (pour-over / manual alternative)
- 7
Set up
Use a pour-over cone with a paper filter. Add 10–12 level tablespoons (about 28–30 g) of medium-ground Veracruz coffee to the filter. Place the cone over a warmed cup or carafe.
- 8
Bloom
Start by pouring 40–60 ml (about 1.5–2 fl oz) of water just off the boil (95–96°C) evenly over the grounds to saturate them. Let bloom for 30–45 seconds to release CO2 and intensify aroma.
- 9
Continue pouring
Pour the remaining water in slow concentric circles to reach 16 fl oz (about 475 ml) total. Maintain a steady pour to finish in about 2.5–3.5 minutes after the bloom. This timing accentuates the balanced acidity and full-bodied roundness.
- 10
Serve
Remove the filter, swirl the carafe gently, and serve as above.
Brewing (French press alternative)
- 11
Grind and steep
For French press, grind Veracruz beans coarser. Use a 1:15 ratio (about 30 g coffee to 450 ml water). Add grounds to the press, pour 450 ml hot water (95–96°C), stir gently to ensure full saturation, and place the lid with plunger up. Steep for 4 minutes.
- 12
Plunge and serve
Slowly plunge the filter down, pour into pre-warmed cups, and serve. The French press will emphasize the full body and round mouthfeel.
Finishing and storage
- 13
If using milk or sweetener, add to taste. For best flavor in subsequent brews, store remaining Veracruz whole beans in an airtight container in a cool, dark place and grind fresh for each brew. Consume within 2–4 weeks of opening for optimum aroma and intensity.
