Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Making the Meat Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the finely chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until softened.

  3. 6

    Brown the Meat

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Liquids and Seasoning

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  5. 8

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

Combining and Serving

  1. 9

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the meat sauce and toss to combine.

  2. 10

    Serve

Serve the spaghetti bolognese hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.
