Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Assembling and Baking Pizza
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
- 6
Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out to your desired thickness, about 12 inches in diameter.
- 7
Add Sauce and Cheese
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a parchment paper. Spread tomato sauce evenly over the surface, leaving a small border for the crust. Tear mozzarella cheese into pieces and distribute them over the sauce.
- 8
Bake Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza (with parchment) onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
- 9
Add Basil and Season
Remove the pizza from the oven. Scatter fresh basil leaves on top, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt to taste.
- 10
Serve
Slice the pizza and serve hot, enjoying the classic flavors of Margherita pizza!
