Prepare the Ingredients
Slice the tomato into thin rounds and set aside. Grate or slice the Fontina, Mozzarella, and Provolone cheeses.

Assemble the Panini
On a slice of sourdough bread, layer Fontina, Mozzarella, and Provolone cheeses. Add tomato slices and fresh basil leaves on top. Top with another slice of sourdough.

Butter the Bread
Spread butter on the outer sides of the assembled sandwich.

Grill the Panini
Preheat a panini press or skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the press or skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-5 minutes per side.

Serve
Remove the panini from the heat, slice in half, and serve hot.
