Method

Baguette Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape Baguettes

Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a long baguette.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the shaped baguettes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).

  8. 8

    Score and Bake

Make several diagonal slashes on the top of the baguettes. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

  9. 9

    Cool

Remove from the oven and let the baguettes cool on a wire rack.

Butter Preparation

  1. 10

    Prepare Butter

Let the unsalted butter sit at room temperature until soft and spreadable.
