Method
Marinade Preparation
- 1
Make the Marinade
In a bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- 2
Marinate the Chicken
Place the chicken breasts in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring it is evenly coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for more flavor.
Grilling
- 3
Preheat the Grill
Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
- 4
Grill the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the marinade and discard the marinade. Place the chicken breasts on the grill. Grill for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) and the chicken is no longer pink in the middle.
Sandwich Assembly
- 5
Toast the Bread
Optional: Lightly toast the slices of whole grain sandwich bread on the grill or in a toaster.
- 6
Assemble the Sandwich
Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on each slice of bread. On the bottom slice, layer lettuce, grilled chicken, a slice of tomato, and a slice of cheddar cheese. Top with another slice of bread.
- 7
Serve
Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately, enjoying the grilled chicken sandwich with your favorite side.
