Method

Making the Dough

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water (1.5 cups) and sugar (1 tbsp). Sprinkle the active dry yeast (2 tsp) over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour (4 cups) and salt (1 tsp).

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with olive oil (2 tbsp). Stir until a rough dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 7

    Shape the Knots

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 8 inches in length) and tie it into a knot.

  3. 8

    Arrange on Baking Sheet

Place the knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet, giving them some space to expand.

  4. 9

    Let Rise Again

Cover the knots with a clean cloth and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.

  5. 10

    Bake the Knots

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Preparing Garlic Butter

  1. 11

    Melt Butter

In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter (1 cup).

  2. 12

    Add Garlic and Parsley

Once melted, add minced garlic (4 cloves), chopped parsley (1 tbsp), and salt (1 tsp) to the butter. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Finishing Touches

  1. 13

    Brush with Garlic Butter

Once the knots are baked, remove them from the oven and immediately brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture.

  2. 14

    Serve Warm

Serve the garlic knots warm, garnished with extra parsley if desired.
