Method
Making the Dough
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (1.5 cups) and sugar (1 tbsp). Sprinkle the active dry yeast (2 tsp) over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour (4 cups) and salt (1 tsp).
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with olive oil (2 tbsp). Stir until a rough dough forms.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 7
Shape the Knots
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 8 inches in length) and tie it into a knot.
- 8
Arrange on Baking Sheet
Place the knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet, giving them some space to expand.
- 9
Let Rise Again
Cover the knots with a clean cloth and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- 10
Bake the Knots
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Preparing Garlic Butter
- 11
Melt Butter
In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter (1 cup).
