Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Begin by washing the Russet potatoes thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt. Once cleaned, peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut Potatoes into Fries

After peeling, cut the potatoes into even strips about 1/4 inch thick to ensure they cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). To check if the oil is ready, you can drop a small piece of potato in; if it sizzles immediately, the oil is hot enough.

  2. 5

    Dry and Fry Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Carefully add a batch of the dried potato strips to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 6

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  4. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste. Toss gently to coat.
