Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's hot enough to bake the cake evenly.

  2. 2

    Prepare Cake Pans

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to prevent the cake from sticking.

  3. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until well mixed.

  4. 4

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on medium speed until just combined.

  6. 6

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water to the cake batter. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.

  7. 7

    Pour into Pans

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

  8. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. 9

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 10

    Prepare Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, mixing well.

  2. 11

    Add Milk and Vanilla

Mix in the whole milk and vanilla extract until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

  3. 12

    Frost the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  4. 13

    Serve

Cut the cake into slices and serve. Enjoy your homemade chocolate cake!
