Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Freeze the mozzarella cheese sticks for about 30 minutes. This helps them hold their shape while frying.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Breading the Cheese

Remove the cheese sticks from the freezer. Dip each cheese stick first into the flour, ensuring it is fully coated, then into the beaten eggs, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture. Press the breadcrumbs onto the cheese sticks to ensure they adhere well.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the correct temperature.

  5. 5

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Carefully add the breaded mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the chopped basil just before serving.
