Method

Rice Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse and Cook Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rinsed rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Once cooked, let it steam for an additional 10 minutes.

  2. 2

    Season the Rice

In a small saucepan, combine rice vinegar, sugar, and salt over low heat until dissolved. Once the rice is ready, transfer it to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.

Vegetable Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare Vegetables

While the rice is cooling, julienne the cucumber, carrot, red bell pepper, and avocado. Chop the green onions finely. Set aside the prepared vegetables.

Assembly

  1. 4

    Assemble Temaki

Lay a nori sheet, shiny side down, on a clean surface. Place a small amount of sushi rice (about 2 tablespoons) on the lower third of the nori. Spread it out slightly, leaving some space at the edges.

  2. 5

    Add Vegetables

Layer the prepared vegetables on top of the rice, arranging them in a line. You can use any combination of the vegetables prepared.

  3. 6

    Roll and Shape

Starting from the bottom, roll the nori tightly around the filling, creating a cone shape. Use a bit of water to seal the edge of the nori.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Serve the temaki immediately, garnished with sesame seeds, soy sauce, and pickled ginger as desired.
