Method

Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Patty Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined to avoid overworking the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing while cooking.

Cook the Mushrooms

  1. 3

    Sauté the Mushrooms and Onions

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and onions, and sauté for about 5 minutes until the onions are translucent and mushrooms are browned.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic and Thyme

Stir in the minced garlic and fresh thyme, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cook the Burger Patties

  1. 5

    Grill the Patties

In the same skillet or on a grill, cook the burger patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

  2. 6

    Add Swiss Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and cover the skillet or grill to melt the cheese.

Assemble the Burgers

  1. 7

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 8

    Build the Burgers

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a slice of tomato. Top with the cooked patty with melted Swiss cheese, followed by the sautéed mushrooms and onions.

  3. 9

    Finish the Assembly

Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then cover with the top half of the bun. Serve immediately.
