Method
Preparing the Hash Brown
- 1
Grate the Potatoes
Peel the Russet potatoes and grate them using a box grater or a food processor. Place the grated potatoes into a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much moisture as possible.
- 2
Season the Potatoes
In a mixing bowl, combine the grated potatoes with salt and black pepper. Toss well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- 4
Cook the Hash Brown
Add the seasoned potato mixture to the hot skillet, pressing it down into an even layer. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
- 5
Flip and Finish Cooking
Carefully flip the hash brown using a large spatula. Cook the other side for another 5-7 minutes, until it is golden brown and crispy.
Adding Toppings
- 6
Add Cheese
Once both sides of the hash brown are cooked, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Cover the skillet with a lid for about 2 minutes or until the cheese has melted.
- 7
Garnish
Remove the hash brown from the skillet and transfer it to a serving plate. Top with sliced green onions and a dollop of sour cream.
