Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Begin by preheating your oven to 300°F (150°C). Place the pork shoulder in a large roasting pan.

  2. 2

    Add Seasonings

Rub the pork shoulder with liquid smoke, soy sauce, garlic cloves (smashed with the skin on), and Hawaiian sea salt. Ensure the pork is evenly coated.

  3. 3

    Roast the Pork

Cover the roasting pan tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Roast for about 4-5 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

  4. 4

    Cook the Rice

While the pork is roasting, rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover. Cook for about 18-20 minutes or until the rice is fluffy and water is absorbed.

  5. 5

    Fry the Eggs

In a non-stick skillet, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the skillet and fry them sunny-side up or to your desired doneness.

  6. 6

    Prepare to Serve

Once the pork is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before shredding. Shred the pork using two forks.

  7. 7

    Assemble the Dish

To serve, place a scoop of white rice on each plate, top with a generous portion of the shredded Kalua pork, a fried egg, and sprinkle with chopped green onions. Drizzle with Sriracha to taste.
