Method

Rice Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Rice

Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 15 minutes or until all the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for another 10 minutes.

Hamburger Patties

  1. 2

    Form the Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and form into patties, about 3/4 inch thick.

  2. 3

    Cook the Patties

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the hamburger patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove from the skillet and keep warm.

Grilled Onions

  1. 4

    Prepare the Onions

In the same skillet used for the patties, add the olive oil over medium heat. Slice the yellow onion into thin rings and add to the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the onions are caramelized and translucent. Remove from heat and set aside.

Eggs

  1. 5

    Fry the Eggs

In a separate non-stick skillet, add a small amount of oil or butter over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook to your desired doneness (sunny-side up or over-easy) for about 3-4 minutes.

Brown Gravy

  1. 6

    Make the Gravy

In a saucepan, combine the beef broth, soy sauce, and black pepper. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Heat the broth mixture over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Gradually whisk in the cornstarch slurry and continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Assemble the Loco Moco

On a plate, serve a portion of the cooked rice as the base. Top with two hamburger patties, the grilled onions, and a fried egg. Drizzle generously with the brown gravy over the top. Serve immediately and enjoy!
