Method

Potato Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Start by thoroughly washing the Russet potatoes under running water to remove any dirt. Once clean, peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut into Fries

Cut the peeled potatoes into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick, to ensure even cooking. Aim for uniform size to avoid some fries being undercooked while others are overcooked.

  3. 3

    Soak in Water

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps remove excess starch, which leads to crispier fries.

Frying Process

  1. 4

    Prepare the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which can cause the oil to splatter.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of fries to the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry the potatoes for about 4-5 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with salt and any optional seasonings to taste.
