Method

Preparation of Main Components

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

If not already cooked, rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to your rice cooker or stovetop instructions. Once done, fluff the rice with a fork and keep warm.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Fish

If using fresh fish, grill or pan-fry it until cooked through, about 3-5 minutes per side depending on thickness. Once cooked, flake the fish into bite-sized pieces.

  3. 3

    Prepare Umeboshi

If the umeboshi is whole, pit it and chop it into smaller pieces. Set aside.

Assembling the Chazuke

  1. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In a serving bowl, place a generous scoop of the cooked rice at the bottom.

  2. 5

    Add Fish and Umeboshi

Top the rice with the flaked fish and chopped umeboshi.

  3. 6

    Add Furikake

Sprinkle Nori's furikake generously over the top of the fish and umeboshi.

  4. 7

    Add Tsukemono

Place a serving of Nori's Tsukemono on the side of the bowl.

Serving

  1. 8

    Final Touches

Optionally, add sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and a sprinkle of shichimi togarashi on top for added flavor and garnish.

  2. 9

    Serve

Pour hot dashi or green tea over the assembled chazuke just before serving, ensuring to cover the ingredients. Serve immediately.
