Method
Tofu Preparation
- 1
Press the Tofu
Start by draining the firm tofu. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top to press out excess moisture for about 30 minutes.
- 2
Cut the Tofu
Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, approximately 1-inch in size.
- 3
Coat the Tofu
In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Toss the tofu cubes in this mixture until well coated.
For Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can check the temperature using a kitchen thermometer.
- 5
Fry the Tofu
Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain the Tofu
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried tofu from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
For Dipping Sauce
- 7
Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey (or maple syrup), chili flakes, and minced garlic until well combined.
